Six Spectacular Spots for Fall Leaf Peeping

As the days get shorter and cooler, the leaves start changing into their beautiful fall colors. Walking through fall foliage is one of our favorite autumn adventures. 

Of course, we can’t help but be partial to the Pacific Northwest. After all, it’s where we grew up and got to have some of our greatest adventures. 

The Columbia River Gorge, the border between Washington and Oregon, becomes a wonderful in autumn. Mount Hood peaks in October and November with an array of bright red, orange, and yellow leaves perfect for snapshots. It is also ideal for hiking and biking. 

But there are tons of places around the US for leaf peeping, so we’ve gathered up six of the top spots here: 

Rocky Mountains

Before the ski season begins in Aspen, Colorado, outdoor enthusiasts have plenty of time for hiking and mountain biking while enjoying some of the most beautiful fall vistas. The Aspen tree leaves turn a brilliant yellow-gold, typically starting in October. 

Southwest 

The New Mexico highlands provide a spectacular view of changing leaves. Visitors can cruise around the Enchanted Circle scenic byway — a route that connects Taos, Eagle Nest, Red River and Questa while peeping at the fall colors. 

Midwest

Wisconsin is not particularly known for rolling terrain. But there is a striking, glacier-formed gorge called the Wisconsin Dells. Right alongside the Wisconsin River, leaf peepers can take boat tours, river walks, or go sightseeing in Devil's Lake State Park.

Mid Atlantic

The Pocono Mountains are stretched around gently winding roads that are perfect for fall foliage chasers. You can hike in the Delaware Water Gap or stroll in the small towns and watch autumn unfold. Leaves begin to turn in mid-September and peak in October.

Northeast

The Catskill Mountains are offer New Yorkers the perfect fall escape in beautiful hikes or scenic drives along with a rainbow of changing leaves. After touring, fall foliage fans can check out local cideries and breweries or the quaint towns like New Paltz or Woodstock.
